Medical Director-Psychiatrist


REPORTS TO: Division Director of Mental Health Services


FLSA STATUS: Exempt


WORK HOURS: Varies


NATURE OF WORK: This professional position provides physician intakes, pharmacological management, treatment direction and treatment plan supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team of case managers, therapists, nurses, program managers and other health care professionals. Will entail working in both an out-patient setting and with a crisis residential unit with largely rural population clients within a four county catchment area.




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


• Ability to perform Essential Duties as outlined below.
• Current valid license as a Physician in the State of West Virginia.
• Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry.
• Knowledge of protocol, theories, principals and practices of Psychiatry.
• Ability to comply with Client’s Rights.
• Ability to comply with Valley’s and Division departmental safety procedures.
• Ability to read ,write and speak the English language.


DUTIES:


• Examines clients, performs evaluations and assessments, and compiles client medical data, including health history and results of physical examinations.
• Administers or orders diagnostic tests and interprets tests results for deviation from normal.
• Makes determinations for and handles all documentation relating to clients.
• Develops, reviews and implements client care plans along with treatment team to ensure the continuity of care in compliance with Valley’s and State guidelines.
• Records or directs to have recorded clients vital signs, weights, measurements, intake and output, food consumption and other information as ordered.
• Performs or directs to perform range of motion and reality orientation with clients.
• Administers or directs to have administered all medications as ordered.
• Instructs and counsels clients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living and health maintenance.
• Ensures the timeliness and accuracy of information documented into the clients records.
• Participate as a member of the professional interdisciplinary treatment team as client needs dictate.
• Conducts trainings as required.
• Recommends medical and health procedures.
• Complies with standards of practice by supervising the professional and technical activities of other health professionals.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending medical workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in medical and health societies.
